Why is Posture Important?

Proper posture is a position where your back is straight and your shoulders are held back firmly. Your bottom should press up against the back of the chair when sitting. Your posture is important because: 1) it directly affects your mental and physical health, 2) good posture can make you appear taller, thinner and more confident, and 3) you can prevent or eliminate low back pain, neck strain and carpal tunnel syndrome. These conditions result from chronic muscle strain caused by holding your body in an unnatural position.

Take Control of Your Posture

The easiest and quickest way for anybody to improve reading concentration is to prevent back pain and physical discomfort when reading. Back pain is one of the most common pains that people experience and some experts estimate that around 80 percent of us will experience back pain at some point in life. Most people experience back pain largely as a result of a sedentary lifestyle working at the computer, driving, watching TV and reading for long periods or time

Good posture is key to maintaining a healthy spine and can also prevent fatigue, back pain and headaches. It's important to stand up or sit up straight at all times, even when you're doing something as simple as reading a book. Here are some important tips:

Sitting with the right leg height - When you sit in a chair for a long period of time, it is important that blood circulation to your legs continues. Sit in a chair that permits both feet to rest flat on the floor. Try to keep your knees at the same height as your hips. If your feet don't touch the ground, use a footrest. Don't cross your legs.

Relax your shoulders - Make sure your upper back and neck are straight, but still in a comfortable position. Don't pull your shoulders back or hunch them forward. Hunching shoulders can pull on chest muscles and affect their flexibility, whereas pulling your shoulders back can make your abdomen jut out.

Maintaining Good Posture - Do not bend your head down to read. You should not lower your head to read. This causes a lot of neck stress. Set the height of E-Tool properly for your seat, which you may be able to raise or lower. Hunching forward is almost guaranteed to cause neck and back pain and reduce your focus, concentration and the amount of time you can read.

Body Conditioning - Research has repeatedly shown that prolonged sitting has detrimental effects on your body even if you’re exercising regularly. It is very important to support your neck and shoulders as you read. Make sure your lumbar area is supported by a small pillow or bend in the back of your chair. Otherwise, you are going to have pain.

Finally, when we take control of our posture, we are helping our vital organs to function well. When we’re slouched forward, our rib cage is actually pushing down on our internal organs. All this mushing can cause digestive problems. By having good posture, we keep things nice and open for our intestines to do their work.
